FAQ & troubleshooting

Quick answers to common questions, and a checklist for when a chart isn't where you expect it.

Troubleshooting

The chart isn't showing on my product page
  1. Is the chart Active? Drafts are never shown. Check the Status column under Size charts.
  2. Does it apply to this product? Open the chart and check Applies to. If it targets a collection, check the product is in that collection.
  3. Was the product just added? New products, and products newly added to a targeted collection, pick up their chart automatically, usually within a minute. If one still hasn't after a few minutes, open the chart and click Save to update every product it applies to.
  4. Is the app embed on? The app's Home page shows Storefront status. If it says App not enabled, follow Enable the app in your theme.
  5. Is the Size chart block on the product template? Check the template this product actually uses — products can be assigned alternate templates. Add the block to each one.
  6. Does the chart have content? Empty elements are skipped, so a chart with only empty elements shows nothing.
  7. Still stuck? Contact support with the product's URL.
The wrong chart shows on a product
A more specific chart is winning. A chart that lists the product directly beats a collection chart, which beats the All products chart. If two collection charts both reach the product, the one updated most recently wins. Check which active charts include the product — see which chart shows where.
I can't make a chart Active
Another active chart already covers the same thing: only one active chart can apply to All products, and a product or collection can only be in one active chart at the same level. The message names the other chart — remove the product or collection from it (or set it to draft), then save again.
A chart switched to Draft on its own
Every product (or collection) it applied to was deleted in Shopify. A chart that applies to nothing can't show anywhere, so the app moves it to Draft rather than let it use up one of your active charts. In Size charts its status is marked and Applies to reads Products deleted or Collections deleted. Open the chart, choose new products or collections (or switch to All products), set it to Active and save — or delete the chart if you no longer need it.
The "same row as the price" placement isn't working
Your theme uses a price element the app doesn't recognise. Choose On the same row as another element and enter your theme's price class instead — right-click the price on your product page and choose Inspect to find it. If it can't be found, the link stays where the block is placed.
My Appearance changes aren't showing
Make sure you clicked Save on the Appearance page. Charts with Use store appearance turned off keep their own look and ignore store-wide changes. Also try a hard refresh — your browser may be showing a cached page.
The enable check says "We couldn't check your theme"
Shopify didn't answer in time. Switch the embed on in the theme editor anyway, save, and click the refresh button in the app a little later.
My uploaded video won't play
Shopify processes uploaded videos before they can play, which can take a few minutes for large files. Wait, then reopen the chart. Supported formats are MP4, MOV and WebM, up to 1 GB.

General questions

Do I need to edit my theme code?
No. The app works through a theme app embed and an app block, both added from the theme editor. Your theme files aren't touched, and uninstalling the app leaves your theme exactly as it was.
Will it slow down my product pages?
The chart is stored on the product itself, so it arrives with the page — there's no extra request to our servers when a shopper views a product. The script and stylesheet are small and load only on product pages.
Can different products have different charts?
Yes. Make one chart per product type and assign each to specific products or collections. When more than one chart could apply, the most specific wins — see which chart shows where.
Can I show the chart without a popup?
Yes — set the block's Display as to Inline (show chart on page). See Theme block.
Can shoppers switch between cm and inches?
Yes. Turn on unit conversion on a table. You enter measurements in one unit; the app works out the other.
Can I translate the chart?
Chart content shows exactly as you type it, so write it in your store's language. Charts made from a template start out in your admin's language. The app's own storefront text — the default link label, the close button's screen-reader label and the photo buttons — follows your store's language automatically in English, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Urdu. You can change the link label in the theme editor. The app itself is available in the same languages; pick one under Settings → App language.
Where are my uploaded images and videos stored?
In your own store, under Content → Files in Shopify admin. You can reuse them in other charts through the image and video pickers.
What happens if I delete a product or collection that a chart uses?
The app removes it from the chart automatically, and the chart keeps working for everything else it applies to. If it was the last product or collection the chart applied to, the chart can't show anywhere, so the app moves it to Draft — see A chart switched to Draft on its own under Troubleshooting.
What happens to my charts if I uninstall?
Charts stop showing on your storefront straight away, because the theme block and embed are part of the app. Your theme is left unchanged. Shopify asks us to erase your store's data 48 hours after uninstall, and we do.

Theme compatibility

Plug : Size Chart works with any Online Store 2.0 theme — Dawn, the other free Shopify themes, and most themes from the Theme Store. These themes support app blocks on the product page.

Older "vintage" themes don't support app blocks, so the Size chart block can't be added. If you're on a vintage theme, get in touch and we'll help you find a way to show the chart.
