Rewards
Rewards are what customers spend their points on. Each one becomes a Shopify discount code when a customer redeems it.
How rewards work
- A customer opens the widget and picks a reward they have enough points for.
- The points come off their balance straight away.
- They get a discount code that works once, on their account only — a code shared online is no use to anyone else. They can copy it or click Apply to cart.
- The code appears in Shopify under Discounts, like any other code.
Add a reward
Go to Rewards in the app menu and click Add reward.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | What customers see in the widget, e.g. "$5 off your order". |
| Type | Amount off order, Percentage off order or Free shipping. |
| Value | The amount or percentage off. A percentage can't be more than 100. |
| Cost | How many points the reward costs. At least 1. |
| Who can redeem | Every member, or only members in a VIP tier and above — see VIP tiers. |
| Active | Inactive rewards are hidden from the widget. Codes already issued keep working. |
Free product rewards
Choose Free product as the type and pick the product (and variant) with Choose product. Redeeming it gives the customer a code that makes one unit of that product free, at its price on the day — however many they add, exactly one is free. The widget's Apply to cart adds the product and the code in one click. If the product is sold out, the customer is told and keeps their points.
When an order with a reward code is cancelled
If a customer used a reward code on an order that's then cancelled, the points they spent on that reward are given back. It shows in their activity as Reward returned. The same happens when the order is fully refunded; a partial refund keeps the reward spent.
Free shipping and other discounts
Reward codes combine with free shipping discounts, so a points reward never stops a customer from also getting free shipping. Whether a code combines with your other product or order discounts follows Shopify's discount rules.
